Shades & Wood Art Gallery and Mumbai's Artland Present 'Colors - Beyond the Shores' - 18 October to 7 November, 2007

September 26, 2007 - Press Dispensary - India's contemporary art scene has come of age and is crossing the shores of many continents to reach London in a big way! Shades & Wood Art Gallery, Kensington, together with Artland, Mumbai, is bringing the works of 17 renowned Indian artists - senior and emerging - to the capital with its ‘Group Show of Paintings’, starting with a private viewing on Thursday 18 October, 2007, and continuing with a public exhibition until 7 November.

The collective event encompasses a multitude of themes, formats and styles expressive of India’s eclectic culture. Combining creativity with their individual, philosophical approaches towards life, the exhibiting artists have produced masterpieces specifically for the show.

Khozema Patanwala of Shades & Wood Art Gallery says: "Our artists have strived to connect themselves to the capital art connoisseurs, with works representing the latest trends in the ever-changing aesthetic scenario of India’s artistic arena."

The featured artists are now making waves in world-wide art, and will be familiar to discerning collectors. They include: Ajay De, Anand Panchal, Charan Sharma, Gurucharan Singh, Kinari Sanghavi, M Rama Suresh, Madhusudan Kumar, Prafulla Dahanukar, Piu Sarkar, Prithvi Soni, Sharad Sovani, Shiva Sanjari, Sukanta Das, Subroto Gangopadhyaya, Wasim Kapoor, Surjit Akre and Virendra Sharma.

Mr Patanwala continues: "These extraordinary talents have provided paintings of different genres and idioms, depicting diverse cultural backdrops. Whether it is the innocent faces of the rural people and the flora and fauna; the rich repertoire of music of the cosmos and the forceful human musical expressions; or the kaleidoscope of colors portraying ‘mindscapes’ through evocative landscapes, the paintings simply come alive. In addition, there are women-centric themes with mythological and contemporary characters playing respective roles, along with works depicting the complexities of modern society in black and white."

The show will be held at the Shades & Wood Art Gallery, 77 Kensington Church Street, London, W8 4BG. The private viewing takes place on Thursday 18 October from 6-9pm and the exhibition continues to 7 November, 2007 - Monday to Saturday 10am to 6.30pm.
