Press Dispensary - November 03, 2004 - National Anger Awareness Week, 1 - 8 December
Christmas can make even the most reasonable person’s blood boil - with crowded stores, trying to fit festive preparations around work, family fall-outs and too much ‘sherry’. Help is at hand; as the British Association of Anger Management (BAAM) is helping stressed-out people keep a ‘cool Yule’ with its National Anger Awareness Week, taking place from 1 to 8 December.
BAAM has promoted an annual National Anger Awareness Week in the UK for the last three years. During the week, it runs a series of taster evenings across the country, some of which are free of charge. On its website, www.angermanage.co.uk, BAAM offers a downloadable ‘Keep Your Cool Kit’, which can be used daily in the home or workplace to help people learn how to manage and express their anger appropriately.
Mike Fisher, director of BAAM, comments: “Learning how to control anger, rather than expressing it in a negative or violent way, creates healthy personal and professional relationships, reduces stress and increases confidence and well being. Everyone can benefit from learning how to manage their anger more appropriately and, in doing so, can define and understand the difference between aggression and assertiveness.”
Besides National Anger Awareness Week, BAAM runs various programmes throughout the year across the country, delivered as weekend sessions or 10 week series of workshops and seminars. Mike Fisher offers anger management coaching in Central London and East Grinstead.
BAAM has worked with over 5,000 individuals since its inception in 1999. It has also helped a range of organisations, including: Ford, Coca Cola, London Underground, BBC, NHS, Social Services, the court services, the army, the police, Youth Criminal Justice Board, YOT, Connexions, etc.
On 11 November, BBC 3 is screening a documentary of a weekend programme lead by Mike Fisher. This precedes and is part of promoting National Anger Awareness Week.
