Press Dispensary's full press release writing and press release distribution service does exactly what it says ‘on the tin’ – we write an announcement for you, we send it to a targeted list of press and opinion formers, hand-picked from our media database, and we publish it online, as well as distributing it to news sites and aggregators through our RSS news feeds.

We also provide you with your own personalised online press office and RSS news feed.

Here’s how the combined service works:

1 Online application & payment
You start by filling in our order form. We evaluate your information (free of charge and usually within a few hours) to see if it is newsworthy. If “yes”, we confirm your order and invoice you by email. You can pay immediately and securely online, using a credit or debit card (or PayPal); as soon as your payment is confirmed to us, we start work on writing the release and compiling its distribution list.

You can also pay by cheque or BACS but please allow four working days for BACS clarance and seven working days for cheque clearance. We begin work as soon as the payment clearance is confirmed to us.

2 Newsworthiness
It is wholly unhelpful to you, the media and our reputation if we issue announcements that don’t appeal to journalists! This is why, with your best interests at heart, our expert team evaluates your story for newsworthiness. If a new ‘hook’ or angle is needed, we’ll advise you accordingly; in most cases, we can find an angle for your story that is topical and works!

3 Creating your press release
Our experienced writers and editors create a release based on your information and our insight, and email you a draft for your comments and approval. Please be accurate and think carefully about the information you provide, as our standard service allows for one free amendment stage.

The process of writing the release and securing your sign-off is typically carried out within two or three working days, assuming prompt communications. If your announcement is urgent, please tell us: we can usually accommodate requests for a quick turnaround.

4 Creating your press list
Drawing on our frequently updated media database of over 80,000 contacts, we hand-pick a targeted mailing list for you. We select individual journalists and editors, not just publications, we include in-house and freelance journalists (press, radio, TV and web), editors and opinion formers, and we base our choice on the content and angle of your story, the target audience, the relevant industry sectors and the geographic location. You are sent a draft list for comments and approval.

5 Distributing your announcement
  • Quality control is a vital part of our service, so nothing is sent to the press until the release has been approved by our senior editors, and both the release and the press list have been signed off by you.
  • The release is emailed individually to each contact on your press list, appearing to be sent from you.
  • The release is sent in the body of a plain text email, without attachments. This is the format preferred by journalists and it avoids the filters used by many media organisations to weed out viruses, spam and email trackers.
  • We have invested in a sophisticated, bespoke distribution system so that each email is personally addressed to each recipient and all emails are sent individually, one at a time, in rapid succession. We do not use Bcc or bulk-mailings and we do not spam.
  • As soon as distribution takes place, we notify you by email and - should you wish - by SMS.

6 Online publication
Unless you choose otherwise, we publish your release on our optimised and frequently spidered website, with a guaranteed home page listing. We also feed it to popular online news sites such as Google News, MyYahoo News and MyMSN News, we syndicate it via a number of news agencies and aggregators such as NewsNow, Moreover and NewsGator, and we broadcast it widely on our RSS feeds.

This carries your message to a global media community and - increasingly - directly to your public. You may find that online publication of a press release leads not only to media coverage but to a noticeable increase in 'click-through' traffic to your website. A growing number of SEO (search engine optimisation) experts therefore incorporate our service into their optimisation and marketing strategies.

Once your release has 'dropped off' our home page, it remains available to our registered journalists and is accessible in our archives. It retains a permanent, unique web address and can be searched by anyone either directly on our site or via search engines. This maintains the media, SEO and click-through potential of your press release for years after the initial publication.

7 Online press office
From your first release with us, you are offered a free online press office which provides a long-term index of your releases and your own, personalised RSS news feed.

8 Completion
Immediately after distribution we email you a confirmation of completion and a fact sheet about what to expect and how to deal with press enquiries.

The press release names you (or your nominee) as the first point of contact, so most journalists who are interested in your announcement will get in touch with you directly. We will forward on to you by email any replies that are sent to us.
