New Business Horizons Launches Theresa Jones in the First Simultaneous Second Life and Real Life Art Gallery Opening - August 14, 2007

2007-08-06

August 06, 2007, Press Dispensary. New Business Horizons (NBH - www.nbhorizons.com), a Second Life (SL) full service developer, is launching an art gallery - ‘Art on the Horizon’ - in its SL business park, Blue Horizon, featuring real work by a real artist, Theresa Jones (www.neworleansjazz.org/theresa.html). The official opening of Theresa’s exhibition takes place at 8pm on Tuesday August 14, 2007, with a real-world party at her gallery in St Ives, Cornwall, and a simultaneous virtual event at noon in SL (the same as 8pm in Real Life -‘RL’). The launch is being supported by famous jazz club, Ronnie Scotts.

Although Theresa is now based in St Ives, she previously worked and lived in in New Orleans, and was there when Hurricane Katrina struck on August 29, 2005. Her paintings were saved from the hurricane in a matter of hours, and these works are currently viewable in SL. The gallery launch is roughly timed to commemorate the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Ronnie Scotts (www.ronniescotts.co.uk) is joining in the tribute by displaying ‘Art on the Horizon’ in its newly refurbished members’ lounge in Soho, London. A large plasma screen will display live footage from both the SL gallery launch and the real-world party in St Ives. Staff from Phoenix Media will be on hand in Ronnie Scott’s to explain Second Life.

As one of its major achievements, the launch will feature two-way webcasting from the St Ives gallery, set up by NBH.

Alan Haymes (SL avatar: Dr Hickman) of NBH explains: "This is going to be the first simultaneous art gallery launch in SL and RL. In the real gallery, there’ll be a plasma screen showing the SL gallery, with all the avatars coming to the virtual launch. At the same time, we’ll have a webcam in the real gallery streaming live video into the SL gallery, so the avatars can see the real guests in St Ives. People in the real gallery will be able to wave at the camera and see themselves on screen in SL. It could easily blow their minds!”

He adds: “Unlike the more common SL galleries which feature either digital art or copies of real art that's simply plundered from the internet, Blue Horizon goes the extra mile with real art from a real artist in this unusual gallery launch event.”

Theresa Jones (SL avatar: Safron Lusch), says: “During a reading with my astrologer, she challenged me to extend my creativity with SL. After the reading, I Googled 'Second Life' and intuitively came across NBH, a company that takes real business into the virtual world. NBH had just a built a gallery in SL and, when I got in touch, I was offered the job of gallery manager. This role enables me to reach a global audience. NBH has been incredibly supportive."
