Dyson Airblade™ Hand Dryer First to Gain New Hygiene Accreditation

2008-10-14

October 14, 2008, Press Dispensary. The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer is the first product to join the Royal Society for Public Health’s (RSPH) new accreditation scheme, which is designed to endorse products that support health, hygiene and safety.

The Royal Society’s panel of scientific experts has rigorously examined the hygiene claims made for the new hand dryer, to ensure that the scientific evidence really stacks up.

Unlike warm air hand dryers it doesn’t rely on evaporation to dry hands. Instead it filters incoming air to remove 99.9% of bacteria and then literally scrapes water from hands in just ten seconds. The HEPA filtration combined with the fast dry time means that people leave the bathroom with completely dry hands, reducing the risk of cross contamination.

Professor Richard Parish, chief executive, Royal Society for Public Health, comments “We are pleased that the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer is the first product to pass our stringent review, and we consider that it is a significant step forward in hand dryer technology and hygiene.”

Dyson’s hand dryer will now be able to use the new accreditation kitemark, which demonstrates that its claims have been closely examined and approved by an independent team of scientific specialists.

Toby Saville, Dyson microbiologist, says: “The RSPH accreditation helps reinforce our findings that the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer is the most hygienic hand dryer available. In such an unregulated and murky market, endorsements such as the RSPH add much needed credibility and impartiality.”

Other organisations in the fields of cleaning, infection control, hygiene and safety, who are interested in accreditation for their products, should contact Anna Zilnyk at the Royal Society for Public Health for more information.

About Dyson Airblade™
The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer is the fastest, most hygienic and energy efficient hand dryer. Unlike warm air hand dryers it doesn’t rely on evaporation to dry hands. Instead it filters incoming air to remove 99.9% of bacteria. This clean unheated air is then forced at 400mph through a 0.3mm gap to create a continuous sheet of air to literally scrape water from hands, drying them in just ten seconds.
