64-bit Support Added to New Visual DataFlex Release
March 05, 2009, Press Dispensary. Asckey Data Services Ltd, a channel partner for Data Access Europe, announces the release of Visual DataFlex 2008/14.1, the latest version of the long established and highly successful development tool.
From this release onwards, Visual DataFlex extends its operating system coverage to include support for the 64-bit Windows platforms plus the full range of current Windows OS. In addition, the new release brings database management and modelling capabilities into the development studio without generally needing to work directly with source code.
The operating system support now covers Windows Vista, Windows XP and is backwards-compatible to Windows 2000 (with network support where appropriate), and the equivalent Windows server family. The major Windows remote computing environments - Windows Terminal Services and Citrix XenApp – are also supported.
The Visual DataFlex Web Application Server, which uses the same application “Business Rules” code as VDF Windows desktop applications, is supported on the same platforms.
Chris Hibbert, marketing manager at Asckey Data Services Ltd, says: "While Visual DataFlex has always made developing and modifying data table definitions easy regardless of the target database, bringing this ability into the development studio will make a big difference. If you've made a mistake - such as data type, length, or need a new field - you can simply pop back into the Table Editor panel and it's done!
"Plus, by having the visual view and raw source code view available side by side, just as with the visual interface components, it's much easier to learn the product, development is easier to manage and the whole process is speeded up."
Bernard Hill, Asckey’s sales manager, adds: "Remote application deployment through Windows Terminal Services or Citrix is taking off these days. With VDF now formally supported in 64-bit environments, we expect to see this process accelerate even further."
