Sun, Swing, Salsa and Scenic Sierra Nevada at Dance Camp Spain
Taking place from 22 to 26 May, 2013 at Cerro Negro near Orgiva, Granada province, Spain
February 08, 2013, Press Dispensary. For those seeking an active holiday with a difference, Dance Camp Spain is a camping experience in the sun with an eco-friendly feel… and professional dance tuition thrown into the bargain. Providing a welcome antidote to the spate of muddy festivals and camping trips that take place during UK "summer", Dance Camp Spain is set in the naturally beautiful region of La Alpujarra, southern Spain, where the sun shines 300 days a year. Now in its third run, the event is taking place at Cerro Negro (near Orgiva, Granada) over four days from Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 May, 2013. It offers a range of classes and workshops that teach new dance skills and refine existing talent.
Featuring live music, performance and a chance to dance to different styles and sounds all weekend long, the independently-run Dance Camp is the chilled-out alternative to commercial events. Drawing on diverse global influences, classes will encompass: African dance, belly dance, Bollywood dance, creative dance, hip hop, free expression and movement, magnetic Tai Chi, reconnective dance, salsa, Scottish country dance, swing and tango. Workshops will include hula-hoop, poetry in movement, poi, singing, trapeze and Yoga. Special children’s activities will include drawing, face painting, puppetry and trapeze.
The event also features a café-bar serving quality vegetarian food and the camp is eco-friendly with solar showers, an eco-pool (non-chlorinated) compost loos and raw food. The main dance area offers stunning views over the Sierra Nevada scenery, towards the Mediterranean Sea. Those who want to relax to the max can enjoy Thai Reflexology and chair massage. For those who want to dress up to dance, there will be stalls selling ethnic clothes.
Jenny Wood, founder of Dance Camp Spain, comments: "Almost every culture worldwide shares dance as a celebration of creativity, self-expression and an opening of the heart. Come help us explore the joy of dance, enjoy quality workshops run by experienced tutors and relax within the friendly, festival-feel of the camp."
Nestling in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, the Dance Camp Spain site at Cerro Negro is located approximately 2hrs from Malaga Airport and is in a rural area of natural beauty, accessed by a mountain track. Transport links include regular buses from Malaga. Transfers can be arranged from the nearest town, Orgiva.
Dance Camp Spain starts on 22 May, 2013 at 2pm and kicks off in style with an opening ceremony at 4pm, followed by the chance to settle into the camp.
