Leading multinationals urge G7 to take swift climate action, via CCTNE

Climate Change - The New Economy (CCTNE), together with its G7 Edition industry partners - Akzo Nobel, Baleen International, Breakthrough Fuel, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Freightera, Hive Technology, IEC, Konica Minolta Inc., Metrosmart International FZCo and Philips Lighting - is urging the G7 to take action at this week's Summit in Japan, to realize the objectives set by the Paris agreement and deliver on its post-2020 targets, and to encourage others to do the same.
The 2016 Group of 7 (G7) Summit will bring together the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US to address the global climate challenge.
To coincide with the Summit - which starts on Thursday at Ise-Shima, Japan - CCTNE, the only dedicated climate change publication supporting the Summit, is launching its 2016 G7 Edition, which will soon be distributed globally and via official channels at the Summit.
Last year, the leaders of the G7 offered the clearest indication yet that they support hugely ambitious action to tackle climate change, arguing that the world should strive to deliver full "decarbonisation of the global economy over the course of this century".
Ahead of the Summit, Harry Verhaar, Head of Global Public & Government Affairs at Philips Lighting, said: "The realities of Climate Change force an urgent collective focus on reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions".
Sergio Marchionne, CEO, Fiat Chrysler Group, said: "We believe that the true value of a multi-national organization such as ours is also determined by its level of environmental awareness."
As part of this year's Summit agenda, the G7 will be mobilising funds for adapting to climate change and sustainable energy access in the developing world. In its pre-summit progress report the host nation announced US$11.5 billion of climate adaptation finance from G7 countries across 2011-14.
Shoei Yamana, CEO, Konica Minolta Inc. said: "Even as companies pursue innovation, we must remember that we have a responsibility to engage in social issues ranging from the environment to human rights to quality of life."
Summarising the issue in the foreword of the publication, Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change says: "The New Economy will be led by New Thinking".
