Sue Wilson addressed a 50,000-strong crowd of people at the event
Brexit is Total Pants banner at Manchester march
October 02, 2017, Valencia, Spain. Press Dispensary. Bremain in Spain ( http://www.bremaininspain.com (http://www.bremaininspain.com) ), a group campaigning for the rights of British citizens in Spain, made its voice heard at the Stop Brexit National March in Manchester on Sunday, along with 50,000 other people who shared the common aim of an exit from Brexit. As well as marching alongside dedicated Bremain team members, Sue Wilson, Chair of the organisation, was a speaker at the event, at which Lib Dem leader Vince Cable also spoke.
Wilson addressed the large and enthusiastic crowd at the pre-march rally at All Saints Park, where she spoke about "Votes for Life" - how British citizens living overseas for more than 15 years have been denied a vote; how Brits living in Spain have truly integrated into the communities they have made their homes; guaranteeing citizens' rights in the face of Brexit and how the best outcome would be to stop Brexit before any further damage can be done to the UK. Particularly damaging has been the UK government's treatment of EU citizens, who - along with UK citizens living in the EU - have been living in limbo for 16 months since the referendum. The other speakers at the pre-march rally included Vince Cable, Jolyon Maugham, Alistair Campbell, AC Grayling, Bonnie Greer and Alison McGovern.
She comments: "The march reminded us all why we have to keep fighting the nonsense that is Brexit. It was an honour to be asked to speak again, alongside so many wonderful speakers and the crowd's reaction made the journey and the nerves worthwhile. To be surrounded by so many like-minded people was so motivating and the atmosphere was electric. We made a great deal of noise outside the Tory party conference, which won't have gone unnoticed. Let's hope May and Davis were listening."
The new float created by Jacques Tilly - themed around the monstrosity that is Brexit with the heads of May, Davis, Johnson and Gove incorporated into the design - went down well with the crowd and the press. Despite receiving coverage in the UK print media, the march received scant coverage on British television. It did, however, receive coverage in Europe, including a piece in El Mundo, which contained a significant chunk of Sue's speech translated into Spanish. It also received significant coverage on German television.
