For over two and a half years, Brits in the EU have been living with a disgraceful level of fear and anxiety at the prospect of even the softest of Brexits, points out pro-European campaign group, Bremain in Spain ( http://www.bremaininspain.com (http://www.bremaininspain.com) ). Now, with daily talk of a no-deal Brexit, these fears are being magnified.

Sue Wilson, chair of Bremain in Spain, explains that some relief was felt during late 2018 when Theresa May and the EU approved the Withdrawal Agreement, but that was negated by May’s oft-repeated claim that “nothing was agreed until everything was agreed”. May then suffered the largest defeat in parliamentary history over her plan A.

Theresa May now looks set to suffer further defeat when she presents her plan B, C, or D – all bearing a remarkable similarity to the discarded A.

Sue Wilson, chair of Bremain in Spain, says: “Even Theresa May cannot truly believe that no-deal is better than her bad deal. What’s certain is that UK parliament cannot, and will not, accept a no-deal scenario. Shooting yourself in the foot is one thing, but a bullet through the brain is something else entirely.”

Wilson continues: “Last week, we heard that the EU is waiving visa requirements for up to 90 days’ travel in the EU. While this was welcome news for British tourists, it was of little comfort to British citizens who live and work in the EU, or the ‘swallows’ who spend the winters here in second properties.”

Wilson concludes: “This latest concession only serves to illustrate that any kind of Brexit will erode the rights and freedoms of British citizens living, working or retiring in the EU. It’s like losing a pound and being offered a penny. The only way to retain our existing rights is to stay in the EU. We already have the best deal available and we would be crazy to throw it away. At very least, let’s ask the public if the Brexit they’re being offered is the Brexit they voted for in June 2016.”
